The U.S.A. is a country situated in the central part of North America . Unlike some states from Europe , the U.S.A. is composed of fifty different states , making it a federal republic. Each one of the states that form the federation has its own capital and legislative system , making them self governed .
The national capital is Washington D.C. , a city situated in the eastern side of the country , not very far from the Atlantic coast . The city takes its name from the first president of the country : George Washington .
The beautiful metropolis is located in the District of Columbia which is situated between the states of  Maryland and Virginia.  "D.C." stands for District of Columbia and it makes possible a distinction between the national capital and the state of Washington , situated in the north-west with the capital at Olympia.
